Finjoy | UX Case Study Overview

Designing a Financial Empowerment Platform for First-Time Earners

Finjoy was created with a bold ambition: make financial earning opportunities accessible to anyone, regardless of background, experience, or investment capacity.

In India’s rapidly growing digital economy, millions of people want to improve their income but feel locked out by complex financial systems, confusing apps, and lack of guidance. Finjoy set out to change that by creating a platform where users could earn by sharing financial products while also learning, growing, and building confidence.

The challenge was not only to design a functional app.
It was to design trust.

The Problem We Saw

During early research and competitive analysis, we studied several financial affiliate and advisor apps used by urban and semi-urban users.

We found recurring issues across platforms:

• Navigation flows were unclear and intimidating for new users
• Financial terminology created anxiety and hesitation
• Onboarding lacked guidance, leaving users unsure how to start
• Earnings dashboards were confusing, reducing motivation
• Community features were weak or absent, causing drop-off

Many users installed these apps with hope, but abandoned them within days because they felt overwhelmed or unsure.

This was not a technology problem.
It was a user confidence problem.

Understanding the Users

Our target users were first-time earners, part-time advisors, students, homemakers, and professionals looking for flexible income.

They had diverse education levels, varying familiarity with finance, and limited tolerance for complex interfaces.

Through interviews and journey mapping, we learned:

Users want clarity before commitment
They need visual explanations more than text-heavy instructions
They are motivated by flexible earning potential
They trust communities more than marketing claims

Most importantly, they needed reassurance that they were doing things correctly.

Designing the Experience

We reimagined Finjoy around three principles:

Clarity. Confidence. Community.

1. Frictionless Onboarding

We simplified onboarding into small, guided steps with visual cues and real examples.

Instead of overwhelming users with product catalogs, we introduced earning concepts gradually, using short learning modules and clear action prompts.

Users understood what they could earn, how it worked, and what to do next.

This reduced early drop-off and increased first-task completion.

2. Visual-First Learning

Financial education is often text-heavy and intimidating.

We replaced dense explanations with diagrams, short walkthroughs, and interactive modules that matched users’ mental models.

Users could learn at their own pace, revisit topics, and see how their actions connected to results.

Learning became part of earning, not a separate step.

3. Transparent Earnings and Progress Tracking

Many users lose motivation when they cannot clearly see results.
We redesigned dashboards to show earnings, milestones, and next steps in a simple, visual format.Users could track performance easily and understand how small actions led to income growth. This created a sense of progress and ownership.

4. Building Community Trust

  • Financial confidence grows faster in supportive environments.

  • We integrated peer learning spaces, mentor guidance, and success stories to help users feel part of something larger.

  • When users saw people like themselves succeeding, their confidence increased.

  • Community became a driver of retention.

Key Insights

  1. Users prefer visual, simple interfaces because education levels vary widely.

  2. Flexible income opportunities motivate adoption, especially when accessible on mobile.

  3. Community support builds trust faster than promotional messaging.

  4. Interactive training improves user success rates and long-term engagement.

Impact of the Redesign

After refining the experience, Finjoy evolved from a transactional earning tool into a confidence-building ecosystem.

Users were able to start earning faster, understand financial products better, and stay engaged longer. The platform became approachable for beginners while still powerful for experienced users.

Most importantly, people felt capable.

They were not just using an app.
They were building financial independence step by step.
